Had a chance to play one of my personal favorite courses in the San Antonio area recently at River Crossing Golf Club. It was a 4-person scramble, but still was a great day for all. The weather was perfect. The course and especially the greens were in great shape as usual! If you haven’t had a chance to experience the beautiful hill country course… I highly suggest you make plans to book your tee time as soon as possible. You will fall in love with this course. The staff is wonderful. The holes are challenging and rewarding. Not to mention the views!
Scrambles are mainly for fun and networking and that’s exactly what happened at the tournament. Started off on hole #1 which is a great opening par 4. We birdied that hole. Then, of course, there is the island green on #2. Not a particularly difficult hole, even from the tips, with a PW or 8 iron in your hands, but…. It’s still an island green and that’s kind of rare in San Antonio. Plus, add a bit of wind into the mix, and it’d even more fun… But, we all managed to find dry land on out tee shots. Hole #3 is a 559-yard par 5 with water on the left. As an added bonus, I got to swing a lot harder than I normally would in a stroke play event. Yes, yes I know, bad habits can start to creep in. But, we had a lot of fun! I did get ahold of my tee shot with a little draw which allowed me to move the sign stake for the longest drive on that hole. I never really thought that would hold throughout the tournament, but much to my surprise, my name was called in the awards and dinner party. The prize was a free 3-hour limo ride with a San Antonio limo company. I’m going to book it with my teammates and their wives for a fun night. We are going to surprise the wives when the limo picks everyone up. That way, the wives will be begging for us to go golfing all the time and win more cool prizes! Brilliant golfing plan!
Rather than boring you with all the details on every hole. I’ll just give you the cliff notes version. We had a great time on a wonderful course. It was a perfect day for the tournament. Made a lot of new friends. We didn’t come in with the lowest score, but we did score a bonus limo ride soon. In short, book yourself a tee time at River Crossing Golf Club, just up highway 281, north of San Antonio. You’ll be glad you did!
